Support+Feed is five years old! Thank you to all of you – our partners, community leaders, restaurant owners, volunteers, board members, artists, pledge-takers, and donors who came together with us for the greater good. Through it all, you’ve been there supporting our mission, because you understand the interconnectivity of our work, the entrenched inequity in our food systems, and why what we eat matters, for our health, our planet, and each other.
It’s wild to think about how it all started, when a simple idea born out of the Covid crisis sparked a movement. As you might remember, our founder Maggie and a few of her friends started purchasing nourishing, plant-based meals from independent restaurants during the early months of the pandemic, and delivering them to those who needed it most. That act of kindness inspired hundreds to action, myself included.
We were all volunteers for the first year and a half, but because of the commitment of our incredible team, and some critical early support from Maggie’s family, we were able to intentionally build operations far beyond LA, while starting to assemble our small but mighty full-time staff. Our compassionate, hard-working team listened to the needs of local leaders, and as a result of these collaborations, we’ve not only provided 1.5 million meals and pantry items, but also cooking demonstrations, free farmers markets, recipes, and conversations, in cities from Detroit to Sydney, Australia.
Five years later we find ourselves in very different times, but the sense of crisis has only deepened. This is especially true for the most vulnerable among us, as we face a rapidly changing landscape of food and environmental policy, along with the growing threat of environmental catastrophe. Our work has never been more important.
We are so grateful for your support over the past five years, and for sticking with us as we tackle the challenges ahead, together. What gives me hope for the future, and what keeps me going, is this incredible Support+Feed community that we’re all lucky enough to be part of.
