Highlights from our Anchor Cities

There is so much going on across Support+Feed’s eleven anchor cities every week. We tailor our work to meet the needs of each community we serve, and to give you a taste of the kinds of programming we’re providing in collaboration with our local partners, here’s a recap of some recent highlights:

Atlanta

On February 15, Support+Feed and Living on Purpose ATL hosted a cooking demo at their monthly house meeting, featuring Chef Antonio from Stir House Atlanta. The menu featured Pineapple Fried Rice with Extra Crispy Tofu, and participants learned professional wok techniques and tips for making flavorful plant-based meals. We also discussed various ways to address the climate crisis, and every woman in attendance took the Support+Feed Pledge!

Los Angeles

Our LA Volunteer Appreciation Day was a huge success! Amaris, our LA Program and Volunteer Specialist, organized an engaging and thoughtful event in Los Angeles, to celebrate the hard work our LA-based volunteers have put in over the years. It was great to see our volunteers connect with each other and share stories about the meaningful work they do for Support+Feed. Saralyn, our Resource Project Manager, set up a DIY soup station featuring various ingredients to craft nutritious jar noodle soups; Cena Vegan provided meals for the 50+ attendees, with desserts from Kitchen Mouse. We couldn’t be more grateful for the support of the volunteers who make our programs possible.

Nashville

We supported the South Inglewood Community Center’s Valentine’s Sneaker Ball held on February 12th. Chef Mariah Ragland with Radical Rabbit led a plant-based pizza-making demonstration for about 75 kids, and a good time was had by all. Our friends from WME Nashville also came and volunteered with us.

New Orleans

On February 28th, we participated in bEHR Health’s #BLACKOUT, a community wellness activation at #bEHRconnect on Bayou Road. The event brought together local run clubs and fitness groups including Black Men Run NOLA, Run Krewe, Sole Running, and HIIT the Levee for a morning of running, HIIT and yoga. A community health fair was also part of the day’s offerings, with a focus on generational health ailments such as hypertension and diabetes. Support+Feed provided 50 nourishing plant-based breakfast sandwiches from our restaurant partner, FRSH food and juice company. 75+ participants from across the city came out to move together, connect, and celebrate health in community!

This is just a small part of our ongoing community-engagement and education work, in addition to our regular meal deliveries and distributions. I hope it helps paint a picture of the ways in which we’re working to change our food systems – while also regularly providing much needed resources and connecting with our communities around the country.
