By Support+Feed Team

Crunchy salty tofu that is quick and easy to make, with pantry staples.

YIELDS: 4 servings

COOK TIME: 10 min

PREP TIME: 5 min

INGREDIENTS

  • ½ block of tofu (7oz)
  • 1 tbsp of oil
  • 3 tsp of soy sauce or tamari
  • 1 tsp of maple syrup or sweetener
  • ¼ tsp of smoked paprika
  • Pinch of black pepper

OPTIONAL INGREDIENTS
Nutritional yeast – this is not required but will add some extra savory flavor, sprinkle it on with the sauce.

RECIPE

  1. Slice your tofu into very thin strips, about ⅛-¼” thick. Lay the slice on a paper towel and pat off the excess water.
  2. Heat a large pan over medium-high heat and warm the oil.
  3. Once shiny, carefully add in your tofu slices in a single layer. You want to hear the tofu sizzle, let it sit for 3-4 minutes to brown on one side.
  4. While the tofu is browning, mix together the rest of the ingredients in a small bowl.
  5. Flip your tofu, making sure it is a nice golden brown. If it is still pretty white, let it sit for another minute before flipping.
  6. Brown this side of the tofu for another 2-3 minutes, flip one piece to check it. The edges should start to firm and brown as well.
  7. Turn the heat to low and carefully pour the sauce on all the tofu. Give it a gentle stir to coat each piece and let it cook for about another minute or so until it soaks in.
  8. Remove the slices from the pan and enjoy while it’s hot and crispy!

CHEF’S NOTES:

  • This tofu is also tasty cold as a snack, or on sandwiches, etc., it’s just not as crispy.
